Often feels like a contradiction, but I think both a) digital reading is mostly much worse than physical reading; and b) literally translating physical affordances is probably not the right way to make digital reading much better.

Do you think that digital reading is also worse from performance stand point? Something like worse comprehension, or shorter retention.

Yes, probably, except insofar as it promotes writing while you read. Some notes here:

Personally, I don't find continous-scroll uncomfortable. Probably, because my reading pattern is simple and I rarely need to look back. Also I use touch screen and scroll continuously, while keeping a currently read line at the top.
