Why are there no "standard texts" on designing software interfaces? (or tell me I'm wrong?)
If you want to learn to *build* software, there are excellent and complete texts on the subject. It's not just a tech-vs-art thing: there are standard texts on type, drawing, color, etc.

That said, I create readers because I want students to have representation in their readings.

About Face is great for interaction design but light on the *interface* design phase of that process. Looking for something focused on that. Haven't read Preece et al, but will take a look—thanks for the pointer!

I inherited it as part of Terry Winograd's library giveaway when he moved out of Gates but I haven't cracked it yet bc of my philosophy about diversity.
If I wrote one, it would have chapters by different people to represent better.
