Why are there no "standard texts" on designing software interfaces? (or tell me I'm wrong?) If you want to learn to *build* software, there are excellent and complete texts on the subject. It's not just a tech-vs-art thing: there are standard texts on type, drawing, color, etc.

irreducible heterogeneity? as a subject UI is distressingly, abjectly liminal. interfaces in the gen sense are always, cf Pauli, the most fraught part of any system. /user/ interfaces cross the ∞ malleability of software w the most diverse/unpredictable existing natural systems

fair tho i feel type is much more concrete and the others are much older; more ink spilt. i'm not even convinced 'software' will be a stable category on the 150+ yr horizon as it is itself an interface between hardware and social structure and may be re/absorbed by either
