Why are there no "standard texts" on designing software interfaces? (or tell me I'm wrong?)
If you want to learn to *build* software, there are excellent and complete texts on the subject. It's not just a tech-vs-art thing: there are standard texts on type, drawing, color, etc.

One interpretation: that's a type error; UX design isn't about doing fundamental research and invention. It's about using standard practices to solve business and customer problems.
As to the interpretation you probably mean: there isn't one.

I disagree strongly here & want to push for the other interpretation too! 😅 1999's Interface Culture changed my life by crystallizing what got me into computers: (graphical) interfaces as cosmogonic act of imagination, all the research & invention ahead of us.

Of course I'm personally excited for this aspiration—it's what drives my work!
