Funny how much sheer pleasurability and inspiration matter for habits. Ever since I got a new piano, my old practice time goals (which I often struggled to meet) feel comically low. Now somewhat effortlessly 3 months ahead of target… gotta ratchet up the goal!

I had similar experience with a new flute few years ago.
The new instrument didn’t work against me in what I was learning so I played a lot more! Once my skills became the the new bottleneck I went back to my old rate.
I wonder if your rate remains high!

Yes, will be interesting to check back in a year! There's also some interesting path dependence in this commitment device. If the new instrument lets me comfortably increase the Beeminder commitment, the new target may be maintainable once/if the pleasure wears off.
