did the average quality of writing improve as revisions got cheaper and cheaper to make?
in my experience, revisions make my writing much clearer, so i’d expect the answer to be yes. but i’m curious if there’s any evidence for or against

I understand the intuition but I suspect the effect is nominal, at least in the tails, where it matters. Many of the most well-regarded writers prefer to use pen and paper today, and yet their work is not obviously distinguishable from their computer-using peers.
that’s a great point! probably a diminishing return as you move from pen/paper to computers
there’s also the question of moving from pen/paper scarcity to pen/paper abundance
my guess is that serious writing only happens if you’re wealthy enough for paper to be cheap, so maybe still marginal
