If you haven't read it, I expect you'd enjoy The Lost Books of the Odyssey, a series of variations and extensions on the epic. I love how I can squint and read them as parts of the original, while of course they're essentially modern in interesting ways.
On this theme, Kazantzakis' 33,333-line sequel to the Odyssey is pretty awesome, with a cracking ending
