Say we discover (somehow) that it's actually impossible to simulate a human-level conscious mind on inorganic substrate. What did we discover? (e.g. we're running in a simulation, and a resolution limit prematurely halts Moore's Law; etc)

It’s an exciting thought, to be living in a simulation. What I think is perhaps even more interesting the the mystery of the nature of consciousness. Why am I me? Why do I experience things the way I do? Why can’t I be we?

I think probably "I" can be "we." Hofstadter has a compelling thought experiment in "I Am a Strange Loop" in which he posits that if people were always born as twins and always did everything together, they'd probably view the dyad as "I".

Tangent: Swedish has different words for “same kind of thing” and “same exact thing” (instance.) “likadan” and “samma.” When I was a kid I found it frustrating but I appreciate it as an adult.
