Unexpectedly, it appears the biggest medium-term societal impact of crypto/blockchain tech is a large number of suddenly-wealthy nerds interested in funneling money towards oddball projects. Even if nothing else happens in the space, this is great!

I always enjoy Googling people who sponsor my work, and I've been quite struck by how many large donors fit the profile of "suddenly crypto-wealthy"—probably 1/3. And that's just the subset who obviously fit that profile based on public knowledge.
