The interstates! "The Big Roads" by Earl Swift is an excellent member of the "big mid-century project" book genre: bold individuals doing impossible things very quickly; scenius; optimism—and, yes, some of the disastrous consequences of same. (h/t , , )

I adore The Power Broker. I don't think I can add much to Caro's reportage. Moses merits both extraordinary praise and condemnation. I'd like to see more people like him, and more people with the power to experiment with countervailing projects and policies equally radically.
