I've noticed that I consistently experience vivid, visceral dreams when taking brief mid-day naps (usually ~20m at 8h after waking). They're not bad, just intense.
I wonder why—maybe I just remember them better during day? My night-time dreams are usually mild or absent.

Delighted that "dream bizarreness" is a key technical term.

I don't know if you have experienced this but one of the more unsettling aspect of naps is that you can remember the taste of food or the pain inflicted on any part of your body immediately after waking up 😳

Whoa! I've experienced this in a light tactile way but nothing as intense as this. Interesting.

I have some notes of my thoughts about why we dream here:

The basic gist is: It is all about "data compression". This also suggests an explanation for "dream bizarreness".
