Boardgamegeek. Arguable if there's a better resource for boardgames. Discoverability can be low, but their rankings are an excellent proxy before you become an expert. Catalog is crowdsourced and unbelievably comprehensive.

Ruhnke's COIN series; Hamblen's Magic Realm, one of the most unusual designs I've ever seen (play online at Realmspeak); The Mushroom Eaters (even weirder); Antiquity. David Turczi is an up-and-comer whom I am watching closely, one of the best in a decade. Brass for excellence.
