Funding is so fascinating. Some of the cooler higher ed experiments have been the result of financial innovation.
e.g. pays less overhead than other labs at MIT: 20% on consortium $$ and only 10% on private gifts...

Yup. Media Lab funding model generally is worth looking into. They've experimented with a few diff funding structures over the decades but have had the governance flexibility to do that thanks to some quirks related to its founding.
