I really like this characterization (and the whole thread’s lovely!). I’ve been sort of hesitant to fully adopt “tools for thought” as a label because “tools” is too narrow (environment’s more apt) and “thought” is too narrow (more: enablement, fulfillment, capacity).

+1 on Tools for Thought feeling too narrow. I think framing it as e.g., "Environment for Collective Fulfillment" better highlights the potential of aiming for a set of connected applications.

Reminds me of this tweet from , where somehow "Tools for Thought" fits more into the picture on the left, whereas the goal should rather be to create a Medium, like in the picture on the right.
