They have completely given up. The narrative now is “hodl,” as if you could ever change the world by sitting on your hands and literally doing nothing.

Proof of stake is weaker, it's less immutable, but it's unclear how much in practice, probably depends on the use-case too, not everything require high levels of immutability. Bitcoin's approach to these use-cases, is to move them to higher level layers on top
