I’m curious about your thoughts on the second one. What is the target audience for which that criticism applies? Does that cover your audience?

Part of what’s very interesting about it is that I don’t know. There’s a substantial literature which suggests that implicit learning activities work well for “high-proficiency” learners, once essential prereq terms are known (and poorly otherwise). Not sure how malleable this is

I love this criticism because I’m so conflicted about it myself. On the one hand, most of the time, implicit learning is what I want! I want to have my hands dirty—situated learning in authentic environments.
But…
… I also know about myself that when I already have gumption, a beautifully-written narrative explanation is a massively higher-bandwidth communication channel, particularly for abstract ideas.
I enjoy the tension between these points!

Great answer. There is a time and place for both. I certainly don’t think explicit learning is a dead end.
