That’s not what I guess. I think the trick is in “the whole population” part. I guess 99% of the population does not take the slightest note, and their systems’ complexity is zero. So I believe the correlation is positive.

Also, when you analize correlations, you have to correct for confounding factors, like intelligence or knowledge. Steven Pinker is one of my favourite authors, and he HAS a primitive system of notes (papers in folders by subject). But basically, he is Steven Pinker...
