Interesting that expert mnemonists (e.g. world memory champions) don't seem to be able translate that into "real-world" achievement (e.g. top execs, creatives, etc). IME insight production does seem to depend on my long-term memory performance. Not sure how to account for this.

Most memory athletes participating in our studies (top 50 of world rankings) actually did excel also in other fields / occupations.

It’s unlikely that someone belonging to the absolute top in one field will achieve the same stellar level of success in other fields though. Mnemonic expertise won’t be unique in this regard, likely all specialized achievers will show some regression to the mean in other fields.

Interestingly, memory champions differ in their evaluation of how helpful mnemonic training is for tasks beyond memory championships: some consider mnemonics crucial for their success at university and job, others consider them a mere hobby without further use.
