Goofy noticing: if I watch a lecture video at the speed that feels most comfortable (usually 2-3x) and pause intermittently to write notes + SRS prompts, the total time consumed is roughly equal to the 1x lecture running time (but I’m much more engaged).

I notice that watching a lecture end-to-end and *then* writing notes/prompts often makes the latter feel more like a chore. Similar observation with books and even live conversations.

Like after a really rich conversation I’ll feel like “oh my gosh this was so good so much to unpack and internalize!” but I’ll end up writing about it for longer than the original conversation lasted! This often “feels bad”… but probably shouldn’t.

Being able to watch at 2x + SRS while watching the lecture + potentially active recall is game-changing that in-person lectures limit. Leave the virtual classroom ready to practice your cards. Going to have to find a new system when we go back in person 🤣

I’ve taken a similar approach and it works well for me. I enjoy podcasts at 1.25x or 1.5x too. Goofy side effect: in “live” sessions I find myself searching for the 1.5x button! 😜

Umm... 🤯 Tell me about this 2-3x business. Did you have to practice to get comfortable at that speed, or did it happen naturally?

Maybe I’ve sped up over time. It depends on the speaker, of course. Feels pretty natural to me.

I'll semi often watch a lecture a 2x _twice_. I'm more primed for it the second time and it has the same cost.

Right! The challenge here is that re-studying doesn’t support long-term memory encoding very effectively…
