how I suck as a human being made the upvoted comment thread ... ya win some, ya lose some 😀 PS I am angry - it hurts me deeply to see others hurting so much now - and I am not insane. I am me. PPS block works well on here on me.

I've been struck repeatedly by how mean-spirited MR's comments section is. I can't explain it, other than maybe evaporative cooling: once a certain critical mass of such behavior starts, less vitriolic people leave, and it encourages more vitriolic people to join? Not good.

Part of what's so weird about it to me is that on an object level, MR's vibe is intensely "authentic truth-seeking," or at least adjacent to that. So it's extra jarring to have the comment section express bad-faith conversation so consistently.
One of MR's "blog-friends" is SlateStarCodex, which has a fairly similar style, but the comment sections couldn't be more different. SSC's is, on the whole, remarkably generative and wholesome!
