Interpreting this statement charitably, I assume you must take Artificial General Intelligence, and biotech and nanotech innovation driven by software, and macro social change driven by social software, to all be beyond the scope of "software startup"? news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4510702

So could starting any company that employs a parent, because their kid could end up enabling those things. At which we've successfully prevented words from meaning things! And can no longer talk about the sense in which DeepMind was a more ambitious project than Bitcoin.

FWIW, that’s not what we intend to claim in that passage! Instead we argue that TFT are likely to yield high returns on marginal effort, especially in the next decade or two; and that TFT / AGI / BCI will probably merge to some extent in the longer term.
