Both somewhat dystopian and delightful: you can browse tons of people’s exam submissions for the Royal Conservatory of Music’s associate degree in piano performance on YouTube. youtube.com/results?search
(Normally they’d play at a testing center, but they submit online b/c COVID…)

I think it’s quite neat that RCM issues this certification (and eleven levels) at scale, without requiring enrolment at any specific licensed school. There’s a set of requirements for each level, and you just have to pass them. files.rcmusic.com//sites/default (cc )

What other disciplines have decentralized certification like this, without falling into the IT certification trap where the certification is often an anti-signal? Sommeliers have one. Electricians?

There are also a few submissions on YouTube for the LRCM, their ~bachelor-level certification; e.g. youtube.com/watch?v=drC2zT
Feels so oddly voyeuristic! I wonder why—watching someone’s thesis defense doesn’t feel that way.

Fascinating observations! I’m an examiner for the RCM and although in a previous years I would spend ~2 months on the road examining, in 2020 I examined over 500 candidates from across Canada and the US remotely, all from my home studio.

Wow! I’d be very curious to hear any observations you have about differences in your experience this year.
