Everyone from #roamcult who has been thinking about spaced repetition lately (, , , , ...) read this from and tell me want you think.

Yes. I want cloze deletions, they are one of the most powerful ways of doing spaced repetition. It's how I taught myself to programm fluently in R (instead of snails pace), wrote about it here:

I find that cloze deletions are the most natural way to integrate these prompts into prose notes, but I’m conflicted about them. I find cloze prompts usually work less well than good Q&A prompts:

I agree with yr observations here, Andy but worth mentioning another kind of "cloze" (I call "polygonal") e.g. these 3 prompts:
"A and %%% imply C"
"A and B imply %%%"
"%%% and B imply C"
Taken as a triple, these 3 (you only ever see one at a time) are another way to "cloze".

Yes, this sort of thing sometimes works well. But a common failure mode is that these are usually underspecified. i.e. 6 months later, you notice that D also implies C. Also, A and B imply Q. Often easier to make Q&A prompts more precise.
In some cases, that's a feature, not a bug!
If I had written these cards, my review of them would be precisely to help me find that D and that Q.
