The dynamics of subscriber-based membership communities are very disorienting! An example from today:
If I invite Twitter to an event, a couple % of followers might engage. I’m running a new workshop and invited my Patreon members—20% RSVP’d! Totally wrecked my plans, naturally.

I don’t think I’ve sufficiently differentiated how I think about, say, a Twitter community vs. a membership community. I treat the latter roughly as a more focused version of the former, but it should probably be treated as a completely different thing.

I guess this has something to do with the entrance barrier. There is practically no barrier to start following on Twitter but it costs money to support on Patreon
Because of this barrier, the perceived value of community grows even if the message is the same across platforms
