Honest question, have you ever gotten prescriptive use out of one of Tufte's books? I've always found them to be like museums rather than art classes. More full of a collection of beautiful things than instructions for creating your own.

It’s oddly hard to say exactly because his admonitions are so deeply absorbed into my practice. His comments on the cost of ink and on balancing visual weight inform basically all the visual hierarchies I design.
