Speculation: Is the Baader-Meinhof effect produced by the recall of experiences that would formerly have been forgotten because they had no anchor in the concept network? Frequency bias may be too weak a characterization, since it doesn't explain the dynamics of noticing.

That Poisson argument is quite beautiful! Interesting that it too relies on heightened perception: “assume further that, now that you are sensitized, you will detect the word the next time it appears.” In reality there’s probably a decay rate, esp for abstract concepts vs words.
