Right. This is for Orbit, obviously. I can make it work better if the publisher’s willing to let me execute JS, but that’s often not possible: I’d like Orbit to be embeddable in Medium, Notion, WordPress, Confluence, etc, and that means sandboxed iframes.

WebComponents and ShadowDOM make this so much more accessible. Used to be nightmarish to build embeds.

Alas, it still is nightmarish, if you need them to be embeddable via iframes. Cross-origin storage policies make maintaining user state particularly painful (Firefox, Chrome, and Safari each have substantially unique behavior!)

I’ve been there! The old way, fraught with perils. Im glad at least some embed use cases don’t need to resort to iframes for encapsulation, now that we have shadow DOM!
