One of my big tasks for the next year will be to better understand how to write well in the mnemonic medium—and how to help other authors write well. Starting to collect notes here:

Concision is about two effects:
1. More precise memory activations
2. Fluidity of review sessions
#1 isn’t relevant for PA, but #2 is. I try to write PA prompts so as to keep review sessions fluid; when not possible (e.g. most serious writing prompts), I separate them out.

Thank you for the reply. I am taking quite a long time reviewing cards. Do you have a rule of thumb or rough target cut off for average card review time? Is there any measure of fluidity other than average card review time?

Prompts which consistently take more than 15 seconds to answer tend to need attention. I also cap prompts per session. Fluidity’s mostly about feeling—absolute time is less important than your relative sense of disruption.
