where can I learn more about creating speculative outlines while writing? I'm not sure I understand what kind and degree of speculation is being encouraged. It feels like trying to guess the title of the finished piece, but I'm sure that's not it. Thanks!

You might like: zettelkasten.de/posts/write-bo My real answer is "I don't know!" It's not a practice I feel I understand well. The right stance seems to vary from topic to topic. To avoid "guessing the title," I tend to use tentative comma-list titles, e.g. notes.andymatuschak.org/z244xx3kMf1v8U

Awesome, thanks a bunch! "How to write a book" has been in my reading inbox. :) One idea I had was an outline for a given tech, populated by atomic notes on various aspects and uses of said tech. Would allow remixing into various "finished" pieces via mix and match.
