Have you considered how mentalization--or emotional resonance--is an enriching form of engagement for the reader? I wonder if that process makes appended ideas gleaned from reading last longer.

We’ve both done some informal experiments along these lines, but (at least for me) feels very raw. Also quite bi-modal: this type of prompt, when it doesn’t work, feels patronizing and onerous. Will keep exploring, I expect...
