Twitter: I am terrible at asking for help! I never think to do it. And when I do, I dismiss it, thinking “ah, it’s so much overhead to involve others that it’s easier to just handle myself.” But I’m sure I’m not asking nearly enough.
Help me! What strategies do you have here?

, you're really amazing at this, btw. Maybe you have thoughts? I'm in Andy's boat.

👋 Hey ! Interestingly, when I was a bit younger, I was used to not being afraid to ask for help and even carelessly asked humans questions even though I had not necessarily done my part in trying to get a baseline understanding of the topic

I was very much used to just wanting to feel confident in my claims and so always asked to "make sure" and be secure in my thoughts.
But that was before I was shed more light on the possibility of asking machines questions. Giving credit for driving that tbh.

So, I changed the model in which I asked questions / for help.
Basically, I only ask questions now for the following reasons:

(1) - if I am trying to get a perspective that I know specific people are positioned to give me a unique understanding of.
(2) - I have done my part in researching the topic well enough from a machine to the point where I now think that an explanation from a human is needed

Those two models are the ones that I mostly run by now.
Other than that, I also think it's okay to ask for help for a question here and there that even Google can answer.
As long as you are being genuinely thoughtful and considerate of someone's time, you should be good.

Also, knowing people's bandwidth and who has the better capacity to give explanations is important.
I hope that was helpful!
( this post in itself, was a good question to ask! :D )
