Weird internet communities are seeds from which much wonder grows! ’s writing cultivates many favorite facets of SF culture. A NYT writer plans to reveal the pseudonymous author’s name despite his safety concerns, so SSC is now offline. Such harm—for what value?

It doesn’t matter if you agree with Scott’s positions (ofc I don’t always!) or if you don’t love all the impact it has on SF culture (ofc I don’t love some bits!): Scott deserves support for consistently modeling a powerful and meaningful way to see the world. Excellence is rare.
Another of my favorite writers (can’t name) stopped writing some years ago because they were worried about exactly this kind of thing happening. Their writing was a treasure! Its absence is a deadweight loss!
