(content warning for link: intense brutality) This video is absolutely abhorrent. But, somehow, this thread contains hundreds of such videos. This would be an appalling collection if these were from drawn from all time, but they are apparently from just the last! few! days!

Among so many questions, this video nakedly raises the issue of militarization. Walnut Creek, CA had roughly a quarter the national rate of violent crime in 2018. What is the intended use case for an armored vehicle of this kind?!

It’s a deep topic but a common sense way of explaining it: nobody truly helping people runs around with a murder weapon on their hip all day everyday. Doctors, nurses and social workers manage to de-escalate violent situations without killing the people they are there to help.

Minneapolis and Portland city councillors are working on plans to abolish their police departments entirely and build a new public safety system from the ground up. I think the level of violence from police over the past 10 days has showed why that’s necessary everywhere.

I saw it a few minutes before you posted it & still haven't been able to calm down. I was reading about crackdowns in Hong Kong (on Tiananmen square anniversary) and without in any way excusing that, it's unfathomable & unacceptable that this is happening here.
