I’m totally uneducated on the topic of police funding reform & don’t know what specific policies I would advocate. But it’s easy to imagine funding community programs like 👇 after seeing that we can trade in armored vehicles policing low-crime suburbs(?!)

My city (in Canada) has an APC similar to that which they use for situations with armed suspects. So, fair enough that the police should have proper protection when in that situation. But there is always the risk that someone with very bad judgement uses it to intimidate instead.

Not a use case per se but an explanation is that individuals hyper-sensitized to the threat of violence were given carte blanche to request free(ish) military equipment through the 1033 program. + Hyper focus on tail end risk - Accounting for costs of militarization
