Open challenge for a live "notes tool utilization" contest.
I'll represent @RoamResearch, someone can represent @evernote or @NotionHQ
Audience chooses a topic we agree on, then we have 30 minutes to put together the best outline possible on the topic using only our tool.

(This sounds a touch uncharitable, but please interpret it charitably) The most common goal for note systems (particularly e.g. BASB) seems to be "I want to be able to rapidly write a short Medium essay from excerpts and jottings." That's fine! It's not my goal.

I totally get that argument, I think it only applies though if you're mainly collecting other peoples ideas vs. making your own ideas more navigable.

This hits on 1 of 2 things that keep bothering me about Roam+Zettelkasten, which is the suspicion that a high percentage of people pursuing it are doomed to spend way too much time rewriting the same notes about what their note taking system is and why it’s going to be helpful.

Roam has been incredibly functional for me. I do knowledge work in a very pure sense- 80% of what I do is researching, thinking, etc. The things that I've figured out/am figuring out are all ways of solving concrete problems that I have. Def time optimizing, but worthwhile. - 4 more replies
