It's not particularly principled or aesthetic, but I solved the idempotency issue by giving each of them UUIDs, generated via an Alfred text expansion workflow.

Ah, I wanted to keep UUIDs out of the body, so I did content addressing. That's been working pretty well, though sometimes one loses state, which is annoying.

For me, the aesthetic trade-off was worth it. I love being able to rewrite questions and answers. It reduces the friction to add them in the first place, too - I don't have to make them perfect to add them.
