The exercise organizers played “DM,” generating simulated news coverage, hospital statistics, public response etc based on responders’ actions. FBI and local health professionals suddenly had to coordinate—which turned out to be hard! (see excerpt)

I think the most recent simulation like this was called “Clade X”. We’ve had several such gov-wide sims since Dark Winter, heping identify gaps in our pandemic responses. The lessons were often clear but decades of work seem to have been dismantled by the current administration.
