They convene a group of people, then have them do mostly-time-independent things together over some period of time. Likewise, MOOC materials often “unlock” over time, but the material doesn’t meaningfully interact with that timeline.

Game of Thrones lasted for how many years? People practically grew up playing characters on the show. Many movie franchises have universes that last decades. Example: Star Wars, Marvel Universe etc.

Funny enough, I suspect soap operas may actually have a more intentionally authored time dimension than Game of Thrones!

I would add things like radio shows and serialised comics here...

Seems like these media only really have one tool though—regular schedule, with structure and narrative hooks that create tension between one episode and the next (or, also, I guess, longer term narrative arcs too).
