This morning I implemented PageRank to sort backlinks in my prototype note system. Mixed results!
+: Easier to navigate to implicit "neighbor" notes connected via "hub" notes
+: Surprises me notice how "central" some notes are
-: "Weird" backlinks often end up at the bottom

I've tried pagerank with my notes system deeplink.space/arnav
I felt a need for a manual relevance input.
PageRank + a manual relevance dial felt super productive.

Ah, that's interesting. Concretely, how do you express the relevance of a backlink in the editing experience?

Is the goal of NoteRank specifically to see which Notes rank the highest? What would be your fantasy result here?

It's fuzzy. Backlinks themselves are one piece of what I think of as "peripheral vision"—serendipitous representations of structure and associations. A high rank tells me that a note is implicitly "near" another note that's important along some axis (not always the axis I want).

Not yet. It’s funny; I’m not sure which direction I’d want the sign to be. I’m actually more interested in “weird” connections much of the time!
