Just a little bit curious, but what is theory of not using "sidenote" but [1], [2], citation notation? The latter used to be classical but Tufte popularized sidenotes and your other essays used to use it. Does the use of [] have something to to with the style?

Thanks! And I actually did not click on them until now but it does show what I was expecting when I do that. (I was afraid of taken to a different place). I can see that it is a tradeoff between the touch vs pointing device issue.
