I started a habit a few months ago that's been very helpful: each morning I have to log >= 1h on my primary creative project before I'm allowed any "scattering internet," which I define as email, Slack, news, social media, etc—anything that heyfocus.com would reject.

Can I ask, is that an hour before you go to work, or your first hour at work?

I guess it depends on how you define "work"! I mean an hour on my primary creative project, which is sometimes my job and sometimes not. For me the helpful thing is getting momentum first thing in the day while my attention is weak. Often 7:30–8:30.

Is there anything about heyfocus in particular vs. other anti-distraction apps?

No, just a reference for the kind of things I don't allow. Some people are surprised that e.g. email and Slack are on the blacklist.

I was in a similar habit and loved it. Couldnt keep it up though, life (and Apple) kept getting in the way of my AM hacking.

I think there is high value in tracking 'creative hours' and getting them done first before admin and distractions enter. Similar wisdom to 'Pay yourself first'

Do you still use Focus (or something similar), now that it's been a few more months? Anything new you've learned since February when you tweeted this?
