I noticed a few days ago that I'd unknowingly held an awfully silly model of mentorship: "a mentor is a guru senior to me in all relevant respects." How limiting… & only more so with growth! I see that fine-grained mentorship scales much further and—better yet—can be reciprocal.

the extreme case being: "a mentor is a guru senior to me in ALL respects"
My mentor and I can duck each other's dicks is what you're telling me

The traditional notion of mentor, more experienced in almost every aspect, works well in a world that doesn’t change much. When working near tech, it doesn’t work anymore. We should perhaps find a better word.

💯!
Have you ever explained something and ended up understanding it better yourself as a result? That can happen on both sides: rubber ducking & learning by articulating.

A personal belief of mine is to find and give mentorship in specific areas. There are things I know better than many and am happy to consult, but not direct. There are tons of things I want to learn about, and I know that one person won’t be able to answer every question I have.
