Indeed. My experience has been that it’s a values thing. Many businesses naturally prioritize revenue and growth; many indies prioritize personal craft. It‘s often very difficult to make the rational business case for native—I’ve been there! In these cases it’ll be mostly indies.

In these cases, it’s not “wow, we can’t afford this”: it’s “this appears to have poorer return on investment than other opportunities for these resources. Some will invest anyway, for brand or values reasons, but not expecting to see return on core metrics. Tenuous position.

(I’ll note for the record that I hate this situation, that I hate Electron apps, and I wish it were otherwise. I think Apple’s ignoring this reality at their peril and that fixing this is a key opportunity for them; I expect dwindling developer mindshare over next five years)
