Why are designers relatively rare contributors to open source?

Maybe working on design systems can be a great “incremental participation” first step for a designer to later contribute more deeply/holistically? (Maybe that was what you were suggesting?)

In terms of depth-of-design-thinking, there's now this trend of process-focused open source design (https://www.2dimensions.com/ ) and sharing components that speed up the process for other designers (https://www.humaaans.com/ ), instead of open sourcing the end design itself.

Thank you for sharing! These were both new to me. Both of these do seem to fit into natural designer workflows more effectively than traditional open source contribution models.
