I'm grateful for Joe's continued attempts to create secular "engines of wisdom." I was particularly struck by the distinction he draws between systems emphasizing "integrity" and "responsibility."

It’s worth remembering that the old engines of wisdom were religious, and we struck those down in the name of anti-authoritarianism. A call for new engines of wisdom is, like leftist calls for censorship, a veiled authoritarian plea.

It’s captured in the adage: “Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment.” The veracity of we bucket as “wisdom” is generally incommunicable knowledge: you have to either trust the authority, or learn it the hard way.
