NYT op-ed argues "Life is short, that's the point". Thoughts? nytimes.com/2018/08/18/opi

I always wonder when reading arguments like this what the author would write if they’d been born into a world in which there was no natural death, but there were a group of people pushing for “life as but a blip.”

It’s an argument from stasis, which to me is not a strong argument for mortality. Disease has been a universal part of human existence too; should we keep that around?
If I wanted to steelman I would probably point to our reliance on mortality for social evolution or similar.
