Instead of a check mark there’s a grey background. Those fake channels still won’t have it I don’t understand the issue

Because the new requirements seem to be only be available to people who are influencers outside of YT, companies, or brands. It's less about how many subs you have and more about how much influence you have outside of YouTube. So impersonation accounts have free reign

That I completely get and agree with but my point was about the check marks. People seem to think there’s just not going to be a way to tell if someone is verified which isn’t true

People don't click the channel to see if it's real. They either click the link or they don't. The check mark was a way for people to tell that the person making the comment is really a big Youtuber, or some impersonator. Now that there's no check mark, the fakers have free reign.
