This is an insulting review from a major publication (@WSJ) by a very problematic reviewer, Meghan Cox Gurdon. So I’d like to review her review as an example of the “classical narrative tact” she was looking for in my book.pic.twitter.com/XjQFjsafR9

The OBVIOUS racism aside, she clearly doesn't like or respect the audience for whom YA books are written - readers age 13-17. The disdain with which she dismisses them and their need to be amused and validated is shameful.

Seriously. “Slang will lessen the book’s appeal?” In a YA novel? Weird beyond the telling of it.

It will lessen the book’s appeal to those for whom the book was not intended to appeal. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I hope my high school english teacher appreciates that my most popular tweet ever contains zero sentences ending in prepositions because that was one thing up with which she would not put.

people read austens books to be amused but we're not in the 19th century anymore. classic stories are classic because they are relatable beyond when the story was originally written. which is why we keep retelling and relating to them. I'm not 13 but the book sounds good 2 me
