Or given that syzkaller found the original one, maybe this could work sometime during the supported upstream life of 4.4: syzkaller.appspot.com/linux-4.4 Maybe a study could be commissioned by the OpenSSF to demonstrate the need for it in time for 4.4 to be EOL'd

Our 4.4 was EOL'd earlier this year, but since we did actually have syzkaller testing for 4.4, we spotted it last year and fixed it then (along with many other issues that remain unfixed in the upstream 4.4 due to that lack of testing):
