re: bruteforcing, seems you'd need to do some stronger killing (panic_on_oops-like, or our GRKERNSEC_KERN_LOCKOUT), as BUG()-like behavior won't cut it in many instances for preventing that

Good point. Probably the first version of in-kernel MTE would still produce WARNING-like failures only, but then eventually switched to properly bringing the whole device down. (Kind of following the way SELinux was introduced.)
